How to clean children's shoes? Washing and drying children's shoes
Children's shoes are heavily used by the toddler. Every day they are exposed to a wide variety of factors, such as water, mud, sand and sun. To "keep up" with children's ideas, they also need to be very durable and comfortable. However, even the best shoes are not immune to dirt. In order for them to serve your kid for a long time, you need to clean them regularly. Find out how to do it.
Cleaning children's shoes is your mandatory point of the day? As parents of young children, we know this problem very well! Therefore, we have prepared a short guide with the most important tips on how to clean the shoes of the youngest members of the family.
Can the shoes be washed in the washing machine?
Do you get goosebumps at the thought of hand-washing your hubby's shoes? Do you wonder if you can't just use the washing machine and wash them, for example, on the delicate fabric program? That's not a good idea if you don't want to buy new shoes the next day, especially if the manufacturer explicitly doesn't allow it.
Unfortunately, most of the shoe models we offer at Tupu Tupu, especially those made of leather and suede, as well as sports and summer shoes, cannot be exposed to prolonged contact with water and chemicals. Washing them in a washing machine can lead to the shoes becoming dislodged, cracking the material and distorting them, making the shoes suitable only for throwing away.
Instead, you can successfully wash the laces in the washing machine. However, we do not recommend washing the insoles, because they could deform, which could lead to the development of improper walking habits. Instead of washing them, it's a good idea to replace them regularly with new ones.
How to clean leather shoes?
Leather shoes have been a hit for many years! No wonder. They look striking, plus they are extremely soft and comfortable, which is important especially for children who are just learning to walk. However, like any shoes they get dirty and need maintenance to look good and perform their function.
It is worth remembering that the way to clean shoes depends on the type of leather from which they are made. Therefore:
- Wash shoes made of grain leather or varnished leather with a damp cloth or a damp sponge. Thoroughly wipe them from top to bottom, and pay special attention to nooks and crannies. Be sure to rinse the fabric or sponge regularly and give it a good squeeze. This will prevent you from spreading dirt over the surface, which will prevent unsightly streaks,
- Clean shoes made of split leather, i.e. covered leather, using a brush with fine bristles. This is a very delicate material, prone to damage, so slowly comb it from the top down. Don't press the brush too hard so as not to damage the material and make holes,
- Clean nubuck and suede shoes of dirt with a dedicated bristle and/or rubber brush. As with split leather, gently comb through the material from top to bottom, removing dirt and sand.
Remember that leather, after contact with water, can crack, begin to peel or become hard. Therefore, whenever possible, avoid situations where your child walks in leather shoes on wet grass, puddles or spills.
It is also a good idea to waterproof your shoes with special products designed for the type of leather you choose. This is especially important for shoes made of nubuck, which can deform when exposed to water. However, before impregnating, check the exact instructions of the manufacturer.
How to clean fabric shoes?
Sneakers, sandals, slippers are shoes that are mostly made of soft cotton. It's a breathable material that keeps your little one comfortable while playing both at home, in the nursery, kindergarten and outdoors. However, it is also very susceptible to staining.
To clean fabric shoes, reach for the material moistened with water and a detergent, such as dishwashing liquid or laundry detergent. Then gently wipe the material and remove stains. Remember not to get the shoes wet unless the manufacturer allows it.
How to dry children's shoes?
Drying children's shoes is an integral part of parenting. Sudden rain or an unexpected jump into a puddle can happen to anyone. Do you want to speed up the process and put the shoes in the sun, in a tumble dryer or on a heater? Under no circumstances do this! High temperatures adversely affect the glue and the material. By drying shoes in such a way, you can lead to rapid and irreversible destruction of them.
Dry the shoes after setting them on a towel, in a dry place, away from direct heat sources. Leave them in this place for as long as they need. Also remember not to put wet shoes on your child. By doing so, their material may deform. What's more, damp shoes are the perfect environment for the growth of fungi and other microorganisms responsible for odor.
Regular shoe cleaning will allow your child to enjoy his beloved sneakers, sneakers or sandals for a long time. Take advantage of our advice
