The weather in Poland changes very often, making it necessary to be prepared for different weather conditions. A raincoat or umbrella will certainly come in handy, but may not be enough. You should also take care of waterproof shoes. However, it is not always possible to carry wellingtons. Instead, you can protect your footwear so that it is moisture-proof. Find out how to do this.

The problem of soaking most often affects shoes made of leather that have been improperly cared for or used. However, there is a simple way to restore their former appearance and protect them from soaking - waterproofing!

What is shoe waterproofing?

Footwear waterproofing is nothing more than covering the material with a product that forms a protective coating on its surface. It protects against harmful agents such as salt or moisture, which can both damage the structure and penetrate deep into the shoe and cause odor.

In addition, waterproofing helps keep the shoes looking nice and stops the aging process. So you can enjoy your favorite shoes longer and march boldly in them regardless of the weather.

What to protect leather shoes from water and moisture?

To waterproof shoes that are made of leather, you should use special preparations designed for this purpose. You can easily buy them in stationary, as well as online. A small bottle of impregnating agent is quite cheap. It costs a few tens of zlotys and lasts for a long time. However, be sure not to choose a random product. Reach for a product that is tailored to the type of leather your shoes are made of. For example, for:

  • Suede is best to choose a spray preparation that is easy to apply and does not damage the rough structure of the footwear,
  • grain leather it is worth reaching for a beeswax or beeswax-based polish, which not only protects it, but also nourishes it, but at the same time does not clog the pores. As a result, the material still retains its breathability.

Many of the shoes available from Tupu Tupu are equipped with a GORE-TEX membrane. If your footwear also has it, make sure that the waterproofing product you choose does not adversely affect it. This will ensure that it can continue to perform its function.

How to apply waterproofing to shoes so that they do not get wet?

The application of waterproofing on footwear is not a difficult task. The products come in spray form, so protecting them from moisture is quite easy and pleasant. Even a person with no experience can handle it. All you need to do is follow these instructions.

  • Preparation - In order for the product to work, it must be applied to clean and dry shoes. Therefore, before using the product, wash the entire shoe thoroughly to remove salt and previously applied agents, and then let it dry. You can put rice newspapers inside to absorb the moisture inside. Don't speed up the process with a hair dryer, for example. The hot air can damage the leather and lead to the shoes coming apart.
  • Application - before use, read the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging of the selected product. This will prevent accidental damage to your footwear. Then spray or apply the product to the leather with a sponge. Pay special attention to any kinks and seams, i.e. places where water most often seeps through. Then wait until the product is absorbed. If necessary, you can reapply after a few hours.
  • Polishing - this step applies only to shoes made of grain leather. After waiting an appropriate amount of time after applying the impregnator, reach for the dry material and thoroughly polish the shoes, leveling the wax layer. This will give them a great shine!

Remember that the preparation should be applied regularly not only during the use of the shoes, but also immediately after purchasing them. This will ensure that they are well protected from harmful elements from the very beginning and will not get damaged too quickly during play.

It is a good idea to repeat the waterproofing of shoes regularly at least once a week to maintain the properties of the protective coating and always have dry socks after removing the shoes.

Your child doesn't have to walk around in soaked shoes. Waterproof them before they go outside and the problem will disappear right away. Try it!
